Hawera A&P Show: Part One Small Animal Tent
The annual A&P Show was held in Hawera and was open to the public on the 17th and 18th of November at the Hawera Showgrounds. I had never been to an A&P show so was in for a real treat with some varied examples of local flavor that included local singers, bands, local cuisine, some exhibitors that were presenting a mix of arts and crafts, as well as a lot of farm machinery as well as local firefighters, wood chopping competition, and not forgetting one of my favorite parts of the entire to days, the section that included the small animal tent which was excellent.
Below you will find a small video that reflects what was in the small animal tent as well as some of the animals that were present, not only that but there were two people on the stage at different times, one shearing, which was great and Billy a showman that had his pig, Jonah acting and doing tricks as well as shearing himself with a hand cranked razor.
I thought the general feeling and outlook of the A&P show was excellent, there were plenty of different things to do and see. Not only that there was a nice division between commercial, community, entertainment and competitive endeavors which was a great way to structure the two days. The A&P show also had interactive elements with animals that I found to be unique and fun, judging from what I witnessed I was not the only one who felt that way. The wood chopping competition was another highlight that while it took some time to set up each event and heat it was worth it when it came down to the action, some of that you will be able to see in later posts.
I have also included some snapshots of the tent with some great looking animals as well as some items you may have missed – a great time was had by all.
The Egmont Agricultural & Pastoral Association has been established in Hawera since 1883 and continues to be a group of equestrian, business and farming people who share many rural interests in common.
